Key visual Theaterfestival auawirleben Bern

Culture Inclusive

Since 2016, auawirleben has been one of the first Swiss cultural institutions to be awarded the label «Kultur inklusiv - Culture inclusive». This label is awarded to institutions that are committed to the holistic inclusion of people with disabilities and impairments in cultural life, both on the audience side and among artists and staff. The Charter for Cultural Inclusion was developed in a participatory process and forms the basis of the label partnership. auawirleben is committed to acting and evolving according to these guidelines.

Imagining Futures

In Spring 2021, at a moment of continued uncertainty, EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) brought together independent performance festivals from across the UK and mainland Europe and invited them to rip up the festival rule book as they explore what the future of producing festivals will look like.

Imagining Futures connects 14 festivals of similar size (see belw) and aims to spark new connections, support artistic development and encourage porous, international dialogue. Across a series of online gatherings, the festivals will discuss the most urgent themes impacting on artistic choices and festival logistics and explore innovative formats for the future. Central topics are care, sustainability, responsibility, production and touring conditions, artist development, speed, rhythm and risk. Key conversations will be documented and shared with cultural colleagues as these crucial discussions unfold. The festivals will also have funding to initiate collaborative, experimental commissions that respond to the shared values and emergent themes being discussed.

The network includes festival leaders from 5 UK festivals and 9 festivals from EU countries as a core group. The meetings are organsied by Goethe Institut London and are supported by several national cultural institions, among which are the Ebassy of Switzerland in London and Pro Helvetia.

Vert Le Futur

Because we are convinced that the best way to make progress on the topic of ecological sustainability is to work together, auawirleben is part of Vert le Futur. Founded in 2020, this association promotes a sustainable culture and events industry. Vert le Futur is an interdisciplinary network of players with different backgrounds and from various fields, from theatre to music and circus to environmental science. They exchange knowledge and develop concrete approaches to make the event and cultural sector greener and thus more sustainable. Various events are in the pipeline, of which auawirleben will also be a host.
